Greetings everyone, Dad and I have been working on all our logistics for our first spring CSA. I have been getting all our cold tolerant crops planted. We have planted three types of onions(red, white and yellow), cabbage, collards, two types of mustard, radishes, turnips, head lettuce, Romain lettuce, beets, broccoli, sugar peas, sweet corn, and four types of Irish potatoes (red, white, purple flesh, pink flesh). Yes, that’s right purple and pink flesh potatoes and they are delicious. We got down to 18 degrees one night in February. This killed some of the early cabbage and collards. We have replanted and the crops survived the cold last week. We got down to about 26, which is about the limit the small plants can survive. All the produce looks great and are really starting to grow with the warm weather we are having.
Another project we have been working on is our packing shed. We will use this shed to shell beans, wash produce, and pack your CSA boxes. Also, we will store our tractors, planter, and other equipment under the shed. Our mission is to grow the healthest and best tasting produce anywhere. This shed will ensure the highest levels of food safety and quality control.
While, I’ve been working on the crops, Dad has been working on our box design and getting our delivery truck ready. We have chosen a box design that will be durable and sturdy. It will allow us to fill your box full of great vegetables with out the fear of damage. We have made a long term commitment to Pinckney’s Produce. Our delivery points range from Bluffton to Columbia. We all know how hot South Carolina summers can be. One of the main enemies of fresh produce is field heat. We have purchased a state of the art 2009 Dodge Sprinter Van with a refrigeration unit. This will insure your share will be delivered to your drop point at the best condition possible. We know during these financial times, you our customer, have spent your hard earned dollars for a share of Pinckney’s Produce. We don’t take this commitment lightly and intend to do whatever it takes to insure that our produce is top quality.
Thanks to all of you who have signed up and a special thanks to the people who have offered up their homes and businesses as drop sites. Please tell a friend about Pinckney’s Produce, we still have open slots. Thanks, Pinckney
